The abstract pictures images of Lower Antelope Canyon, showing the reflective sunlight combined with sandstone waves, were taken with my iPhone because it was all I could carry descending down the steep metal ladders. What makes this so incredible is the camera sees a totally different color spectrum than the human eye can. The unequal color temperatures inside the canyons render reds, purples, blues, and oranges that your eye cannot see but my camera could see them easily.
In Upper Antelope Canyon, beams or shafts of direct sunlight radiate down from openings at the top of the canyon, creating a unique phenomenon. The light beams can only be seen between March and early October and between 11 am - 1:30 pm.

Glen Canyon Dam rises 710 feet above the rust-colored walls of Glen Canyon and was constructed to harness the Colorado River in order to provide water for millions of people in the west. It is almost as high as the Hoover Dam which stands at 726 feet. Lake Powell's 1,960 miles of winding shoreline is formed by the Glen Canyon Dam. Anyone traveling highway 89 in Page, crosses the Colorado River at Glen Canyon Dam and gets amazing views of Lake Powell to the north and the deep canyon to the south. Also, many spectacular views from boat trip on Lake Powell.

Birds Found Near Water!
There are endless opportunities to photograph birds along the southeastern coast, particularly Hilton Head Island, where my family vacations several times each year. Most of these pictures are from the South Carolina coast.
Birds Found on Land!
Birdwatching is an addictive pastime and the reward comes after searching for the right location, remaining quiet and waiting for that special glimpse. Capturing a picture of birds is an even more challenging goal but has become my passion. I love to observe birds, identify them and learn about their unique habits. I feel that I am successful only I get close enough to see into their eyes. Hopefully, you will enjoy this collection of pictures and be more aware of the many species of birds that surround you everyday.

Great Blue Heron Catch
Great Egrets
The Great Egrets have long legs and a S-shaped neck. It is the largest of the white egrets and about the size of the great blue heron. They are found near water where they feed. They snap their prey by walking slowly or standing still waiting for the prey to come near them. Egrets usually eat fish killing them with a quick thrust of their sharp bill and swallowed their prey whole. They nest in trees and are monogamous. Both parents incubate their 3-4 eggs.
The Great White Egrets show off their snowy-white plumage (called aigretts). They raise and fan their showy feathers during courtship rituals. Thanks goodness the egrets are now under legal protection.

Lighthouses
Lighthouses have been: beacons of civilization, architectural icons, symbols of human presence and safety, and navigational guides. They have also represented: a rugged coastal lifestyle, protection, salvation, guidance, illumination, never-ceasing watchfulness, steadfast endurance, and helpfulness.

The North Carolina and Virginia mountains are filled with many magnificent sights. Nothing is more invigorating than hiking down to a beautiful waterfall or hiking up to the top of mountain ridge.
